I went from NOT believing in Santa Claus, to NOT believing any God(s) exist, thus; No Santa to No Gods – is how my life has progressed. I was born and raised without Christmas and Santa, but de-converted later in life during my thirty’s after growing up in the Worldwide Church of God, becoming a baptized young adult and then leaving the life I’d grown up with to be a normal guy with a family, but with an Atheist worldview.
I didn’t start this blog because I’m angry at religion. I didn’t start it to de-convert anyone. And I definitely didn’t start it because I think atheists are smarter, better, or more evolved than anyone else.
I started this blog because, after decades of living without belief in gods, I’ve noticed something odd: most people seem to think atheism is either a phase, a wound, or a moral problem waiting to happen.
It’s none of those—for me.
I grew up deeply religious. Not casually religious. Not “Christmas and Easter” religious. I grew up inside the Worldwide Church of God, a tightly controlled environment where certainty wasn’t encouraged—it was required. Life came with answers. Big ones. Eternal ones. There was comfort in that, and also a cost.
When that system unraveled in the mid-1990s, I didn’t leap into atheism with a triumphant fist pump. There was no celebration, no rebellion, no replacement belief waiting in the wings. What followed instead was a long, quiet process of reading, thinking, doubting, and—eventually—letting go.
And then something unexpected happened.
Life went on.
I got married. Stayed married. Raised a son. Paid taxes. Mowed lawns. Worried about health insurance. Lost people I loved. Laughed at inappropriate moments. Felt awe without assigning it a source. Made mistakes without blaming a devil or begging forgiveness from the sky.
In other words, I became remarkably ordinary.
This blog exists to talk about that ordinariness—about what life looks like after certainty, after belief, after the fear that without God everything collapses into chaos or despair. It didn’t. It just got… quieter. More honest. More mine.
I’m not here to convince you of anything. I’m here to describe what it’s like to live without belief and still care deeply about people, meaning, responsibility, and the finite time we get.
I went from No Santa to No gods. Still a good life.
You have a way with words, especially words about faith, and the lack of need. 😀
